Progress on low car neighbourhoods in Scotland

This report follows on from Promoting Low Car Neighbourhoods in Scotland and focuses on 5 case studies testing whether Scottish planning and transport policy has enabled these developments to be built in a way that supports and encourages low-car lifestyles.

The finding of this study shows that, although there are the policies in place, as these are only advisory, the developments are not achieving sustainable, liveable neighbourhoods that encourage active travel. Simple measures such as pavement infrastructure, community car clubs, crossing points and shops / services within walking distance, have been overlooked.
